GSA is overhauling its Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) program to streamline federal contracting. GSA will allow underperforming contracts to expire, remove redundant procurement channels, and retire products with insufficient demand. Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Josh Gruenbaum says this initiative focuses on “value and fiscal responsibility in contracting,” emphasizing that large, inactive contracts drain agency resources while delivering little benefit to taxpayers.

The MAS program is considered the largest commercial acquisition channel in government, recording over $51.5 billion in sales last fiscal year. It gives agencies quick access to products and services at competitive prices, but GSA now seeks to eliminate outdated or underused items from the schedules to reduce waste. Officials point to the Trump‑Vance Administration’s broader cost‑cutting push as motivation to “refocus the program on items and services the government is actually buying.”

In addition to expiring low‑sales contracts, GSA plans to address noncompliance and performance concerns among its schedule holders.
