A growing number of officials in President Trump’s cabinet are adopting a diet centered around fermented foods like sauerkraut, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and Vice President JD Vance have all embraced the regimen, which includes grass-fed meat and excludes alcohol and sugary foods even though “the sulfurous odors cause friction at home.”

The diet, developed by Dr. Sean O’Mara, is said to reduce visceral fat and improve the microbiome, leading to better digestion and overall health. Kennedy, who began the diet about a year ago, claims to have lost twenty pounds in thirty days and has noticed improvements in his energy levels and health conditions, such as atrial fibrillations.

O’Mara, who has advised politicians for decades, emphasizes the importance of fermented foods and has become a popular figure among high-profile clients. His “optimization plans” can cost up to $18,000 for a direct consultation, and he offers personalized guidance on selecting and preparing these foods.

Vice President JD Vance, who committed to the diet for Lent earlier this year, often eats beef or lamb with sauerkraut for dinner. Lutnick, who previously avoided red meat due to cancer concerns, now enjoys old-world cheeses like blue cheese and parmesan.
