Skift analyzes who is affected by Trump travel ban
The Trump administration is considering a new travel ban targeting forty-three countries, potentially restricting or banning travel for nearly 700,000 visitors to the United States. According to a Skift analysis, these travelers accounted for about 1.4 percent of all international arrivals in 2024 (excluding Canada and Mexico).
The largest share of affected travelers comes from Venezuela, with 210,000 visitors last year. Pakistan follows with 143,000, and Russia rounds out the top three with 88,000. Russia’s inbound tourism numbers have declined significantly since the start of the war in Ukraine.
Under the proposed ban, countries would be divided into three categories:
- Red List: Full travel bans for nations such as Afghanistan, Cuba, and Venezuela
- Orange List: Severe visa restrictions for countries like Pakistan and Russia
- Yellow List: A warning period for countries to address security concerns, including São Tomé and Príncipe
